RED HEAT WAVE ALERT (Friday, June 28, 2019)

RED ALERT: HEAT WAVE

Dear Sir or Madam,

We have just been informed by the Prefecture that the Hérault and Gard departments will be placed under a red heat wave alert from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 28, until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.
At this stage and under these circumstances, no instructions to close have been issued by the authorities.
We therefore wish to inform you that the University’s facilities remain open and that activities will, in principle, continue as scheduled.
Nevertheless, these exceptional circumstances require increased vigilance and adherence to certain recommendations, details of which are provided below.
The University’s services are fully mobilized and available to assist you as needed.
Should the situation change, we will inform you immediately.

Some recommended tips:
In case of extreme heat, watch for the following warning signs:

If you experience any of the following symptoms:
severe weakness,
extreme fatigue,
dizziness, vertigo, or altered consciousness,
nausea or vomiting,
muscle cramps,
high body temperature,
thirst, or headache.

If you are with someone who:
speaks incoherently,
loses their balance,
loses consciousness,
and/or is having a seizure.

WARNING!
This could be the onset of heatstroke, which is a medical emergency!
In this case, contact emergency services (15), who will tell you what to do.
For people who are hard of hearing or deaf, if you feel unwell, immediately contact emergency services at 114 via text message or fax, or have someone call 15.
You can also contact the occupational health department.

It is therefore important to act quickly and effectively while waiting for help to arrive.

First aid:
Take all necessary steps to cool the person down: move them to a cool area (air-conditioned room, shade, etc.), loosen any warm and/or tight clothing, fan the person, or even splash them with cool water.
