The iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) competition is an international synthetic biology competition organized by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) that has been held annually since 2003. This competition challenges teams of students from around the world to push the boundaries of synthetic biology. These teams are multidisciplinary and collaborate with other fields to create an innovative product.
340 teams from around the world are participating, including 9 from Franceand 2 from Occitanie(Montpellier and Toulouse)
And this year,Montpellier is participating in the iGEM competition for the first time, with support from the CBS Laboratory.
During iGEM, students will be tasked with creating organisms using DNA fragments called biobricks and addressing challenges they have identified themselves. In November, the teams will gather at the Giant Jamboree to present their projects and findings to the jury; the event will take place at MIT in Boston, United States.
