Newsline: Council Meetings on December 1, 13, and 22, 2017

Three UFR Council meetings, chaired by Mr. Hoffmann, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, were held on December 1, 13, and 22, 2017.

The special meeting of the Council on December 1, 2017, wasdevoted exclusively tothe “Student Plan: Supporting Everyone Toward Success,” presented by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation. This national plan, designed to transform undergraduate education and support all students toward success, follows a consultation process on student orientation and success.
The entire teaching community of our UFR was invited to participate in this discussion.

The following items were on the agenda ofthe Council meetingon December 13, 2017:

– The University of Montpellier (Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Sciences) and IMT Mines Alès: Creation of a dual-degree program combining three tracks of the Master’s in Water Sciences offered by the University of Montpellier with the engineering degree offered by IMT Mines Alès,
– Bilateral implementation agreement regarding the awarding of master’s degrees between USTH (Hanoi, Vietnam) and the University of Montpellier,
– Inter-partner agreement between the Fermat Science association, the University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier, the University of Montpellier, and the “Maths en Scène” association: for the promotion of mathematical culture in Occitanie/Pyrénées-Méditerranée,
– ChERPAM-IREM: partnership agreement between the Faculty of Sciences, the Institute for Research on Mathematics Education, and the École Normale Supérieure Lyon (IFé),
– APUM2017: agreement to provide space at the Faculty of Sciences (Physics lab in Building 20) for workshops of the Drawing/Painting Club of the University of Montpellier Staff Association,
– BIO Campus: agreement for the provision of facilities between the University of Montpellier, the Faculty of Sciences, and the National Center for Scientific Research (Building 26) for surgical training.

Voting on grant applications for the Montpellier Biology Association and the Env’Agrotech Association.

A debate has begun regarding the cost of the Sciences Division’s academic offerings; the Faculty’s plan for implementing the Student Plan (enrollment capacity) and the proposed reduction in teaching hours.

 

It was proposed to continue the discussion at an upcoming special Council meeting on December 22, during which the 2018 budget framework letter was presented, amended, and then approved by the Council.

An official announcement from the Faculty of Sciences administration will be shared with the entire community in early 2018.
