FdS Council Newsline, March 7, 2018

The UFR Council, chaired by Mr. Hoffmann, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, met on Wednesday, March 7, 2018

The following current issues were discussed:

=> the snowstorm that occurred on February 28. The memo titled “Prevention Plan for Cévenol Weather Events,” dated March 18, 2016, which outlines the guidelines to follow in the event of a red or orange alert, was reiterated. The document, which was distributed by the Office of the President of the University of Montpellier last fall, is available on the university’s website. The measures taken by the department during that event were also presented.

=> Reminder regarding the election process for renewing the membership of the Faculty of Sciences Council. The creation of scientific departments means that researchers are now affiliated with those departments and can no longer vote within the academic units unless they have taught 64 hours there.

The following items were on the agenda:

=> A sponsorship agreement with Total to fund the Master’s in Geosciences, specializing in Exploration and Reservoir Geology,
=> The renewal of the partnership agreement with the Executive Employment Club,
=> a partnership agreement between the Mayotte University Training Center and the University of Montpellier,
=> an agreement to renew the “ADIREM” scientific interest group (IREM network),
=> the provision of space for the Eugène Pottier-Jean Sibelius Elementary School for a performance by the school’s choir.

A report on the activities of the International Relations Office was presented: incoming and outgoing student mobility (notably through Campus France), and support for the establishment of dual degree programs, agreements, and collaborations for faculty and faculty-researchers within the unit.

The Faculty of Sciences’ academic calendar for the 2018–2019 academic year for bachelor’s and master’s programs was approved by the Council.

A presentation was given on initiatives related to the ICT in Education and Digital Technology mission, along with a reminder about the upcoming MUSE 2018 call for projects (April 21): “Supporting the pedagogical transformation of degree programs as part of the development of future MUSE Masters of Excellence programs.”

An update on student affairs was also presented and discussed.

The Faculty of Sciences will host the academic finals of the “Faites de la Science” and CGénail competitions on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.
