Meeting of March 20, 2019
The Council, chaired by Mr. Alain Hoffmann, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, met on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in the Salle des Actes at the Triolet Campus—University of Montpellier.
The following news itemswere discussed:
- Introduction of Mr. Christian ASSAF,representative of the Occitanie Region, who was recently appointed by the Region.
- Overview of the“Fête de la Science” event, whichwill take place from Saturday, October 5, through Sunday, October 13, 2019. A call for proposals has been issued; for more information,click here orcontact the organizers by email at:fds34@umontpellier.fr.
The following items were on the agenda:
Pedagogy
- The Council issued a favorable opinionon the name change of the Department of Earth, Water, and Environmental Sciences (DESTEEM) to the Department of Earth, Water, and Environment (TEE) within the Faculty of Sciences at Montpellier.
- Sometraining projectswere presented to the meeting:
- The specialization in Eco-Epidemiology of Parasitic and Infectious Emergencies (Eco-EPI). This program would consist of two tracks: “Integrated Study of Emergencies (EIE)” and “Management and Surveillance of Emergencies (GSE).” The project was presented by Ms. Catherine Moulia, a professor in the Department of Biology and Ecology.
- The restructuring of the HYDRE curriculum and the creation of the international program “Water Sciences and Management for a Changing World” (WISE). These programs would be part of the Master’s in Water program. These projects were presented by Mr. Séverin Pistre, a professor in the TEE Department.
The Faculty of Sciences Council issued a unanimous opinion on the possibility of offering these programs.
- The Master’s in Engineering programwas presented by Mr. Thierry Bretagnon, Head of the CMI programs. The Council issued a favorable opinion on the establishment of a CMI working group as part of the LMD5 system.
- Results of theTake Off 2 callfor proposals: Eight projects submitted by faculty members from the Faculty of Sciences received funding:

- The“Science Education Innovation Lab”project, the “Bioinfo Learning Lab”project,
- The "BioCell Pursuit"project,
- The "MEME"project,
- The“Chem’Scape”project,
- The "PlatiniUM"project,
- The “Bio’Scape”project,
- The project “Establishment of a Master’s Degree in Wood Sciences.”
Campus Map
Marc Herzlich, Deputy Director of Facilities for the Faculty, provided an update on the upcoming “Campus Plan” projects, particularly those involving Buildings 5, 6, 20, 35, and 36.
Academic Calendar for the 2019–2020 Academic Year of the Faculty of Sciences
In light of the planned construction work on the Triolet campus, the Council gave its approval in principle to thefirst-semesterschedule. The difficulties in planning the exams forthefirst andsecond sessions, as well as the shortage of available classrooms due to the construction work, were highlighted.
