A Chinese television crew is filming a documentary that tells the story of the 2,000 Chinese students who arrived in France between early 1919 and late 1920. These students were known as the “Chinese student-workers in France.” Among them were some well-known figures, such as Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping.
The program aims to trace the history of the Work-Study Movement that took place in France a century ago, as well as the experiences of those Chinese students who went on to have a significant impact on China’s future.
The year 2019 marks not only the centennial of this movement but also the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China. From this perspective, reflecting on this century-old movement is not only a tribute to history but also, and above all, a way to look toward the future.
Thank you to our two students from the Fds: Jiayi LIU, a sophomore in the CMI BBB program, and Jingmeng YANG, a freshman in the math program, for sharing their stories. We can’t wait to see the final result of this report!!
