Empowering Women at UM: Women’s Month at the University of Montpellier
At the University of Montpellier, Women’s Day* lasts a whole month!A month of women’sevents, featuring cultural activities, gatherings, and discussions—something for everyone to see and experience.
The University of Montpellier is putting women in the spotlight. Exhibitions, discussions, lectures, workshops, and film screenings will enliven campus life from March 1 through 31.
From March 1 to 31, the University of Montpellier is organizing the fourth edition of its event“Donner des elles à l’UM” as part of Women’s History Month. On the agenda: debates, conferences, an exhibition, a film, and even participatory theater to lay the groundwork for UM’s gender equality action plan and, this year, to focus specifically on gender-based and sexual violence.
* March 8: International Women’s Day
Officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, International Women’s Day has its roots in the struggles of the early 20th century: female workers and suffragists were fighting for better working conditions and for the right to vote, which was not granted in France until 1944.
For nearly 40 years, this international day of demonstrations has been an opportunity to take stock of the situation faced by women around the world. As a day of struggle for women’s rights, it remains a burning issue.
