——– Update as of June 2, 2020 – Message from the Faculty of Science Administration

Dear students,

You must have many questions about the start of the 2020 school year.

Even though there is still some uncertainty about the conditions of your welcome, the teaching teamswill do everything possible to ensure that you receive as much face-to-face teaching as possible. Teaching is an exchange between teachers and students, and as scientists in the making, you know that knowledge is acquired through experience: practical, supervised, or field-based teaching is essential for your studies.

One thing seems clear, however: the health situation could make it difficult to resume the academic year under normal conditions. Regardless of how the pandemic evolves, the start of the academic year will necessarily take place under unprecedented conditions, and we will have to comply with strict health protocols.

It is very likely that the number of students allowed to enter a building, lecture hall, or classroom will be limited in order to comply with physical distancing requirements. Ensuring safe movement within buildings will also entail additional constraints. Teaching staff are currently considering the necessary adjustments to limit the impact on your studies. Depending on how the epidemic evolves, changes may be implemented during the semester, particularly if the situation improves.

However, it is more than likely that digital tools will continue to play a very important role in your training. When you register or re-register, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire so that the teaching teams can assist you with any courses that require computer equipment.

Another new feature:your administrative registration will now be done online. You will only need to be present to finalize your student card (multi-service card).

The2020-2021academic yearwill begin the week of September 14 for bachelor's degrees andthe week of September 7 for master's degrees(with some exceptions for certain very specific programs).

You will receive all the necessary information from the teaching staff regarding the start of the first semester in July.

We wish you every success in your exams and competitive examinations, and we hope to see you all full of energy for the new academic year.

The management team

——– Update as of April 23, 2020 – Message from the Faculty of Science Administration

Dear students,

We hope that despite the constraints of lockdown, you are doing well. We know that you have many questions about the validation of your semesters and academic year. As you can imagine, in such a fluid situation, it is extremely difficult to provide you with reliable information.

All teaching teams are working hard to ensure that your year goes as smoothly as possible. We know that some of you are experiencing difficulties accessing information about your courses, or accessing digital networks, and many other issues.

That is why, in an effort to take all these constraints into account, the teaching teams are working on assessment methods that will be as suitable as possible for you.

Information about assessments has already been or will soon be communicated to you by yourTU, course, year, or major supervisors, with a minimum of 15 days' notice. The exceptional circumstances we are currently experiencing have forced teaching teams to modify the format of exams while ensuring the quality of the courses. Therefore, it is possible, for example, that a single assessment may cover several teaching units.

In order to allow for greater flexibility, the assessment period for Session 1 of even-numbered semesters, initially scheduled for May 4 to 15, has been extended until May 29.

Depending on how the situation develops, starting on May 11, remote assistance measures will be offered to those who have been unable to participate in the training courses offered remotely.

Pay close attention to information from your teachers and training managers. Check the Faculty of Science website and social media accounts regularly, as well as your institutional email. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. We sincerely hope you have a successful year, which will not have been easy.

Sincerely, the entire management team of the Faculty of Science

——– Update as of April 10, 2020 – Message from the Faculty of Science Administration

Dear students,
This letter does not concern MEEF Master's students, who will receive information from their program directors.
Since the beginning of the health crisis, the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Montpellier has been adapting to deliver all courses scheduled for even-numbered semesters remotely.
Given the uncertainty surrounding the lifting of lockdown restrictions and the evolution of the health crisis, we would like to inform you that in-person classes will not resume before the start of the new academic year in September and that all assessments for even-numbered semesters will be conducted remotely.

The even semester will end on April 30 as planned, and the period from May 4 to 15 may be used for remote assessments. These assessments are the responsibility of the teachers in charge ofTU the training directors. We invite all students who are unable to take the remote assessments due to poor connection quality or equipment issues to contact their teachers. An alternative arrangement will be offered to them within the limits of our resources.

Sessions 2 of the even and odd semesters of the L3, M1, and M2 years and PeiP2 will also be held remotely between June 15 and July 13.
Sessions 2 of the L1 and L2 years will be held in person starting August 25, if possible.
The examination boards for bachelor's degrees (at the end of L3), master's degrees (at the end of M2) and PeiP courses (at the end of PeiP2) will be held during the scheduled periods, before mid-July.
All your teachers are ready to help you through this difficult time, so don't hesitate to ask them for assistance.
It is important that you stay in touch with them and regularly check the emails sent to your institutional address
(prenom.nom@etu.umontpellier.fr address).
Please do not hesitate to report any difficulties your classmates may be experiencing via the address fds-etucovid19@umontpellier.fr.

——– Update as of March 30, 2020 – Message from the President of the University of Montpellier and the Student Vice President

Dear students,

Faced with the lockdown situation, which is the only way to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, our University has organized itself to continue its essential missions as best it can, particularly that of providing you with a high-quality education.
Many issues remain sensitive: the interruption of professional placements, particularly internships, the digital divide, and social difficulties remain problematic. In conjunction with the directors of UFRs, Schools, and Institutes, and thanks to the involvement of the teaching teams and our services, every effort is being made to provide you with the most relevant educational solutions. Please continue to check your university emails for information about the various measures organized by your department. We know that the question of how exams will be conducted is one of your main concerns. This is understandable. We are working on various scenarios, even though we have no idea when the University will be able to resume its normal activities. We ask for your patience. Such a disruption to your studies and personal life, in these difficult circumstances, can be a source of unease, anxiety, and isolation, but, as we have said before, social distancing does not have to mean social isolation. We are therefore sending you this email to inform you of the measures taken by our university's departments and services to support you during this difficult period in terms of student life, health, disability, social assistance, professional integration, documentation, culture, and sports. We will also support student initiatives aimed at combating social isolation. Sadly, our campuses are deserted, but we remain by your side.We know you are courageous in the face of adversity, and our thoughts are especially with those of you who are currently doing internships in hospitals and those who are facing difficult situations. We send you our warmest regards, dear students. Steps to follow

——– Updated March 20, 2020, at 12 p.m. – Message from the President of the University of Montpellier

Dear students,

Following announcements by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the Government, lockdown measures have been put in place, resulting in the suspension of face-to-face classes. Faced with this unprecedented situation, the University of Montpellier is fully mobilized to develop measures to enable you to continue your university life as smoothly as possible. First and foremost, let us keep in mind that these measures are being implemented with the aim of protecting everyone's health and that, as such, the use of remote communication tools must be the norm.

Our primary objective has been to ensure educational continuity despite the pandemic. To guarantee this, the directors of the UFRs, Schools, and Institutes are in daily contact with the educational managers and remain your primary contacts in this area.

I am also aware of your concerns regarding future internships and exams. Please be assured that the decisions and measures that will be taken with the directors reflect our desire to support you so that this pandemic does not penalize you in any way in your studies and that equal opportunities are respected.

This applies to all students, and particularly to students with disabilities, for whom the Handiversité service (dvc-handicap@umontpellier.fr) remains available. Similarly, we are working with the Ministry to find solutions for students who find themselves stranded abroad.

In addition, SCUIO-IP continues to answer all your questions about career guidance and professional integration. You can find the services and contact details at thefollowing address: cuioip.umontpellier.fr

Beyond these educational issues, the period we are going through can become a source of anxiety, worry, and unease.

Social distancing, which is often mentioned, should not lead to social breakdown.

In consultation with the University's Student Vice President, Alexis Vandeventer, I therefore decided that a number of actions should be continued or initiated.

Access to the resources and online services of the Joint Documentation Service remains available via the ENT (Library tile). This is already the case for the books, journals, and databases that you currently consult, and over the course of next week, other resources will become available, including novels and comic books. Online courses and tutorials to help with document research are available on Moodle or on the University of Montpellier channel. Personalized research assistance sessions (appointments with a librarian) and a remote question and answer service are available by writingto scd-info@umontpellierouor via boomerang.biu-montpellier.fr.

Similarly, if you want to continue enjoying cultural offerings during lockdown, we offer content to discover, read, and listen to via theUniversity of Montpellier Art & Culture Facebook account.

The University Physical Activity and Sports Service will be sending you a number of tutorials in the coming days aimed at helping you stay physically active and relax.

Student associations linked to the Student Life Office (bve@umontpellier.fr) are also available to provide support if you feel isolated.

If you have any medical concerns, you can contact the Joint Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion Service (SCMPPS) atthe adressescmpps@umontpellier.fr. Your message will be forwarded to a healthcare professional. The University Health Center (CSU) in Montpellier also remains open and continues to provide medical and psychological consultations. You can make an appointment by calling 04.11.28.19.79.

Finally, CROUS is maintaining its emergency assistance program for students in need. All information is available online at the following address:https://www.crous-montpellier.fr/aides-sociales/assistants-de-services-sociaux/difficultes-rencontrees-face-a-crise-sanitaire-coronavirus/).

For any situation, the Campus Life Department (dvc-direction@umontpellier.fr) is available to guide and support you.

Finally, I would like to assure you of the complete solidarity and support of the University of Montpellier in the face of this major crisis.

Yours sincerely, Dear students,

Philippe AUGE

Dear students,

The rapid spread of the Coronavirus-COVID19 epidemic is now forcing the authorities to take further steps to confine the population. The new measures involve the closure of the premises and grounds of the University of Montpellier as of today, Tuesday, March 17, at 12:00 p.m., for a period of 15 days, which will be extended depending on the health situation. This message is addressed to all students of the Faculty of Sciences to ensure that none of you have been overlooked in the communication from the Administration.Your teachers and the Administration of the Faculty of Sciences are currently doing everything possible to ensure that this unprecedented situation has as little impact as possible on your studies. Below, you will findsome initial information concerning internships in particular. Internships and international mobility

Internships abroad are suspended until further notice, and no further internship agreements will be signed. If you are already abroad, you should have received a letter informing you of the situation so that you can decide whether or not you wish to return to France. If you have chosen to remain in the country where you are doing your internship, you must send a document: correspondence certifying that you have been offered the option of returning to France, that you wish to remain where you are, and explaining the reasons for your choice.
For your own safety, we advise you not to use public transportation—trains, planes, boats, etc.—and to avoid all places where people gather.Be vigilant and do not put yourself in a difficult situation!

If you are doing yourinternship in a company or in UM structures or under UM supervision, you must contact your internship supervisor and your program manager to find out what you can do next, such as continuing via remote work or other means.Under no circumstances should you go to the internship location. More generally, regardless of these adjustments, a general provision relating to the Methods of Knowledge Assessment (MCC) will, when the time comes, be deliberated by the University's CFVU and our Faculty Council.
We ask you to take care of each other by maintaining contact, necessarily at a distance—including via social media—with those around you, with your academic advisors, and with your classmates, especially those who are isolated. Finally, beyond these activities related to your studies, we are also attentive to your personal situation.
