--- Updated to June 2, 2020 - Message from the Management of the Faculty of Science

Dear students,

You must have a lot of questions about the start of the 2020 school year.

Even if there are still uncertainties about the conditions under which you will be welcomed, the teaching teams will do their utmostto ensure that you receive as much classroom teaching as possible. Teaching is an exchange between teachers and students, and the scientists you are becoming know that knowledge is acquired through experience: practical, directed or field teaching is essential to your studies.

However, one thing seems clear: the health situation could make it difficult to resume the school year under normal conditions. Whatever the evolution of the pandemic, the start of the new school year will necessarily take place under unprecedented conditions, and we will have to comply with a restrictive health protocol.

It is highly likely that the number of students allowed into a building, lecture hall or auditorium will be limited, in order to respect physical distance. Securing circulation within buildings will also bring additional constraints. The teaching teams are currently considering the necessary adaptations to limit the impact on your studies. Depending on how the epidemic evolves, changes may be made during the course of the semester, particularly if the situation becomes more favorable.

Nevertheless, it is more than likely that digital tools will continue to play a very important role in your training. When you register or re-register, you will be asked to fill in a questionnaire so that the teaching staff can help you if you require computer equipment.

Another new feature: yourAdministrative Registration willnow be carried out online. Your presence will only be required to finalize your student card (multi-service card).

The 2020-2021 courses will start the week of September 14 for bachelor's degrees, and the week of September 7 for master's degrees(with the exception of some very specific courses).

You will receive all the information you need from the teaching teams to set up the first semester in July.

We wish you every success in your exams and competitions, and hope to see you all back to school full of energy.

The management team

--- Updated to April 23, 2020 - Message from the Management of the Faculty of Science

Dear students,

We hope that, despite the constraints of confinement, you are doing well. We know that you have many questions about the validation of your semesters and years. As you can imagine, in a fluctuating environment, it's extremely difficult to provide you with reliable information.

All our teaching teams are working to ensure that your year goes as smoothly as possible. We know that some of you are experiencing difficulties accessing information on your courses, or accessing digital networks, and many others.

That's why our teaching teams are working on assessment methods that are best suited to your needs.

Information on the assessments has already been or will soon be sent to you by yourTU, course, year or specialization managers, with a minimum of 15 days' notice. The exceptional circumstances we are currently experiencing mean that teaching teams are obliged to modify test procedures, while maintaining the quality of our courses. For example, the same assessment may cover several teaching units.

To allow greater adaptability, the evaluation period for even semester sessions 1, originally scheduled for May 4 to 15, has been extended to May 29.

Depending on how the situation develops, from May 11 onwards, non-presential assistance will be offered to those who are unable to follow the proposed distance learning courses.

Pay close attention to the information you receive from your teachers and course leaders. Regularly consult the Faculty of Science website and its social networks, as well as your institutional e-mail. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. We wish you all the best for a successful year.

Sincerely, the entire management team of the Faculty of Science

--- Updated to April 10, 2020 - Message from the Management of the Faculty of Science

Dear students,
This letter does not concern MEEF master's students, who will receive information from their course supervisors.
Since the beginning of the health crisis, the Faculty of Science at the University of Montpellier has been adapting to provide distance learning for all courses scheduled in even-numbered semesters.
In view of the uncertainties surrounding the release from confinement and the evolution of the health crisis, we would like to inform you that face-to-face courses will not resume before the start of the new academic year in September, and that the assessment of knowledge for all even-numbered semesters will be carried out by distance learning.

The even-numbered semester will end on April 30 as planned, and the period from May 4 to 15 may be used for distance assessments. These assessments are the responsibility of the teachers in charge ofTU and the course directors. We invite all students who are unable to take part in the distance assessments, for reasons of poor connection quality or equipment, to contact their teachers. An alternative arrangement will be proposed to the best of our ability.

Sessions 2 of even and odd-numbered semesters in years L3, M1 and M2 and PeiP2 will also be held remotely between June 15 and July 13
Sessions 2 in years L1 and L2 will be held in person from August 25, if possible.
Diploma juries for bachelor's degrees (at the end of L3), master's degrees (at the end of M2) and PeiP courses (at the end of PeiP2) will be held at the scheduled times, before mid-July.
All your teachers are mobilized to help you get through this difficult period, so don't hesitate to ask them for help.
It's important that you stay in touch with them and regularly check the e-mails sent to your institutional address
(prenom.nom@etu.umontpellier.fr).
Don't hesitate to let us know if any of your fellow students are experiencing difficulties via the fds-etucovid19@umontpellier.fr address.

Faculty of Science

The entire management team wishes you a happy spring vacation. Take good care of yourselves.

Dear students,

Faced with the situation of containment, the only way to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, our University has organized itself to pursue its essential missions as effectively as possible, and in particular that of providing you with a quality education.
Many subjects are still sensitive: the interruption of work placements in particular, the digital divide, and social difficulties remain problematic. In conjunction with the directors of the UFRs, Schools and Institutes, and thanks to the involvement of our teaching teams and departments, we are doing everything we can to provide you with the most appropriate teaching solutions. Keep checking your university e-mails to find out about the various schemes organized by your component. We know that the question of exam procedures is one of your main concerns. And rightly so. We are working on a number of different hypotheses, even though we have no idea when the University will be able to resume business as usual. We would ask you to be patient, as such an upheaval in the organization of your studies and in your personal life, in this difficult general context, can be a source of unease, anxiety and isolation, but, as we repeat, social distancing must not be a social rupture. Following this e-mail, we would like to inform you of the measures taken by the departments and services of our university to support you during this delicate period in terms of student life, health, disability, social assistance, professional integration, documentation, culture and sport.Sadly, our campuses are deserted, but we remain at your side. We know that you are courageous in the face of adversity, and our thoughts go out to those of you who are currently on placement in hospital wards, as well as to those who are facing difficult circumstances.Yours sincerely Philippe AUGE

--- Updated to March 20, 2020 at 12pm - Message from the Presidency of the University of Montpellier

Dear students,

Following announcements by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the Government, a lockdown has been put in place, resulting in the suspension of classroom classes. Faced with this unprecedented situation, the University of Montpellier is fully mobilized to develop measures to enable you to continue your university life as smoothly as possible. First and foremost, we must bear in mind that the deployment of these measures is designed to protect everyone's health, and that the use of remote communication tools should be the rule.

Our first objective was to ensure pedagogical continuity despite the epidemic. To guarantee this, the directors of the UFRs, Schools and Institutes are in daily contact with those responsible for teaching, and remain your key contacts in this area.

I'm also aware of your concerns about internships and future exams. I want you to know that the decisions and measures that will be taken with the principals are in line with our desire to support you so that this pandemic does not penalize you in any way in your studies, and so that equal opportunities are respected.

This applies to all students, and more particularly to students with disabilities, for whom the handiversity service(dvc-handicap@umontpellier.fr) remains mobilized. We are also working with the Ministry to find solutions for students who find themselves stranded abroad.

In addition, the SCUIO-IP continues to answer all your questions about career guidance and professional integration. You can find the services and contact detailsatcuioip.umontpellier.fr

Beyond these pedagogical questions, the times we're living through can become a source of anxiety, worry and unease.

Social distancing, which is often mentioned, does not have to be a social rupture.

In conjunction with the University's Student Vice-President, Alexis Vandeventer, I decided that a certain number of actions should continue or be initiated.

Access to the resources and online services of the Service commun de Documentation remains available from the ENT (Library tile). This is already the case for the books, journals and databases you are currently consulting, and in the course of next week, other resources will be available, including novels and comics. Online courses and tutorials to help you find the information you're looking for are available on Moodle or on the Université de Montpellier channel. Personalized research assistance sessions (appointment with a librarian) and a remote question/answer service are available by writing toscd-info@umontpellieror via boomerang.biu-montpellier.fr.

Likewise, if you want to continue enjoying a cultural offering during confinement, we've got content for you to discover, read and listen to via the Art & culture Université de Montpellier Facebook account.

In the next few days, the Service Universitaire d'Activités Physiques et Sportives will be providing you with a number of tutorials designed to help you stay active and relax.

Student associations working with the Bureau de la Vie Etudiante(bve@umontpellier.fr) are also on hand to offer support if you feel isolated.

For medical concerns, please contact the Service Commun de Médecine Préventive et de Promotion de la Santé (SCMPPS) atadressescmpps@umontpellier.fr. Your message will be forwarded to a healthcare professional. The Centre de Soins Universitaire (CSU) in Montpellier also remains open and continues to provide medical and psychological consultations. You can make an appointment by calling 04.11.28.19.79.

Last but not least, CROUS continues to offer emergency assistance to students in need. All information is available online athttps://www.crous-montpellier.fr/aides-sociales/assistants-de-services-sociaux/difficultes-rencontrees-face-a-crise-sanitaire-coronavirus/.)

The Campus Life Department (dvc-direction@umontpellier.fr) is at your disposal to guide and support you in any situation you may encounter.

Finally, I would like to assure you of the full solidarity and support of the University of Montpellier in the face of this major crisis.

Yours sincerely

Philippe AUGE

Dear students,

The rapid evolution of the Coronavirus-COVID19 epidemic is now forcing the authorities to take a further step in the containment of the population. The new measures entail the closure of the University of Montpellier's premises and enclosures as of today, Tuesday March 17 at 12:00, and for a period of 15 days, which will be extended depending on the health situation. This message is addressed to all students of the Faculty of Science, to ensure that none of you have been forgotten in the management's communication.Your teachers and the management of the Faculty of Science are currently doing their utmost to ensure that this unprecedented situation has as little impact as possible on your studies. Alternative courses have already been proposed for some courses, and we are also working on alternative arrangements for internships.
You will also find - below -some initial information concerning internships in particular. Internships and international mobility

Internships abroad have been suspended until further notice, and no more internship agreements have been signed. If you are already abroad, you must have received a letter informing you of the situation, so that you can decide whether or not you wish to return to France. If you have chosen to stay in the country where you are doing your internship, you must send a document:correspondence attesting that this proposal to return to France has been presented to you, and that your wish is to stay in France and justify this choice.
For your own safety, we advise you not to use public transport - trains, planes, boats, etc. - and to avoid all places where people gather. Be vigilant, don't put yourself in a difficult situation!
Internships in France
If you are doing an internship in acompany, UM structure or under the supervision of a UM supervisor, you should contact your internship tutor and your specialization coordinator to find out how you can continue your internship, whether through distance work or otherwise.More generally, whatever these adaptation arrangements may be, a general provision relating to the Modalités de Contrôle des Connaissance (MCC) will, when the time comes, be the subject of deliberation by the University's CFVU and our Faculty Council.
We ask you to take care of each other by maintaining exchanges - necessarily at a distance - including via social networks - with the people around you, with your teaching supervisors and with your fellow students, particularly in isolated situations. Finally, and beyond these activities linked to your studies, we are also attentive to your personal situation. Whether or not you are on placement, you always have the possibility of reporting any difficulties via the address :fds-etu-covid19@umontpellier.fr Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
