June 9, 2021 the "Geosciences Olympiad" took place.

The "Olympiades des Géosciences" is a national academic competition created by the French Ministry of Education in 2007 as part of the International Year of Planet Earth, and reserved for high-school students in 1ère S class.

The aim of this event is to help students discover the geosciences, their multidisciplinary dimension and the associated professions, and to develop a taste for science.

The "Geosciences Olympiad" awards ceremony for the Montpellier academy took place on June 09 on the Triolet campus of the University of Montpellier. At 2 p.m., Michel Séranne opened the ball with a presentation of the geosciences professions. The high school students were then divided into small groups to take part in geoscience discovery workshops led by members of Géosciences Montpellier and ISEM.

At 4pm, the award ceremony could begin! Marion Rilhac, Patrice Fabre and Olivier Megevand from the Montpellier academy welcomed the high school students and their teachers from the Aude, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales and Gard departments. In her welcoming speech, Marion Rilhac, Inspectrice d'académie, reviewed the results of the competition, before distributing to the winners the many prizes provided by partners from academia, associations and industry.
