On June 9, 2021, the “Geoscience Olympiad” took place
The “Geosciences Olympiad” is a national academic competition created by the Ministry of National Education in 2007 as part of the International Year of Planet Earth and open only to high school students in the 1ère S class.
The goal of this event is to introduce high school students to the geosciences, their multidisciplinary nature, and the careers associated with them, and, beyond that, to foster an interest in science among high school students.
The awards ceremony for the “Geosciences Olympiad” for the Montpellier school district took place on June 9 at the Triolet campus of the University of Montpellier. At 2:00 p.m., Michel Séranne kicked off the event with a presentation on careers and degree programs in geosciences. The high school students then split into small groups to participate in geosciences discovery workshops led by members of Géosciences Montpellier and ISEM.
At 4:00 p.m., the awards ceremony was set to begin! Marion Rilhac, Patrice Fabre, and Olivier Megevand from the Montpellier School District welcomed the high school students and their teachers from the departments of Aude, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Gard. In her welcome speech, Marion Rilhac, the school district inspector, reviewed the results of the competition before presenting the winners with the many prizes provided by partners from the academic, nonprofit, and industrial sectors.
