Students taking an active role in their training: BILL (Bioinformatics Learning Lab) pedagogical innovation project

Once again this year, M1 students from theBioinformatics andIMHE masters programs (+ exceptionallyEco-Epi) took part in a collaborative educational innovation project, BILL for Bioinformatics Learning Lab, under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team (Anne-Sophie Gosselin-Grenet, Jean-Christophe Avarre, Anna-Sophie Fiston-Lavier, Marie-Ka Tilak, Emira Cherif and Clothilde Chenal).-Working in an inter-master's group, the students were able to use and share the skills they had acquired during their training to train each other for a real research project: the study of the virulence mechanisms of Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3), the etiological agent of carp herpesvirus, which emerged 20 years ago and has since spread worldwide, posing health problems in many countries. After extracting viral genomes from infected cultures and sequencing them using state-of-the-art sequencing technology (in collaboration with Oxford Nanopore(R)), the students bioinformatically studied the genomic variations identified.
