ICAP Cosmetics students: Collaborative cosmetics and packaging project

We can be proud of our ICAP Master2 Cosmetics Engineering students!

On February 17, Master2 ICAP Cosmetics Engineering students took to the road by bus, bound for Saint Germain-Laprade (Haute Loire), to meet up with Master2 Packaging Engineering (cosmetics) students from ESEPAC.These 37 students, divided into 5 teams, took part in the 1st collaborative project combining cosmetics and packaging, to be set up in September 2021 between the Faculty of Science and ESEPAC. This industrial study project focused on the "development of a natural face care product in eco-designed packaging: from conception to market launch".

On February 18, these 37 students presented their "Eco-conception de produit de soin" project to a panel of 6 eminent members of the cosmetics and packaging industries.

  • Yann MORHAIN, Parfums Christian DIOR industrialization manager (face-to-face)
  • Sabina MANIGUET, Head of LVMH Foresight and Innovation Unit (distance learning)
  • Soline GODET, Cosmetic Valley Deputy Managing Director (face-to-face)
  • Martin FOE, Senior Manager, APTAR Regulatory Department (face-to-face)
  • Mathilde GUYADET, COSMED Environmental Services Manager (classroom-based)
  • Michel SABADIE, former SHISEIDO R&D Director, MS Cosmetics Conseil (distance learning)

This was the culmination of their 5-month investment. In 30 minutes, each group had to develop the steps they had taken to design their own eco-responsible product (facial care with packaging) that was complete, marketable, compliant with European regulations and in line with specifications.

The jury underlined the students' professionalism and commitment to seeing their project through to the end. Although the jury had some "coups de coeur", it did not wish to rank the teams, given the high standard of the products presented and the commitment of the students, despite the various constraints encountered (distance, schedules constrained by apprenticeship and internship periods, etc.).

The jury praised the overall success of the project: compliance with specifications for the formulation of cosmetic products and proposed packaging, the originality of the concept, the technical feasibility and industrialization of the product, the business model and the quality of the presentation materials.

We would like to thank all the members of the jury, as well as our suppliers and partner companies.

"A synergy of seaweed and mountain flowers. A gentle burst of freshness "

The MOUNT'N SEA group presented its "Eclat Givré", a gel frappé. This moisturizing and soothing skin care product is unisex. One of the brand's objectives is to promote marine and mountain ecosystems. This is reflected in the use of active ingredients such as Edelweiss extract and brown seaweed extract. The packaging has been developed entirely from recyclable or recycled materials. Even the case has been redesigned to incorporate an eco-design approach, compared with standard cases.

"Awaken your tangy side! LEMON CRUSH, lemon cream gel "

PULPI presented LEMON CRUSH, a moisturizing, refreshing, anti-oxidant gel-cream. This product is entirely eco-designed: formula and packaging, for minimal environmental impact.
Its formula is based on up-cycled lemon peel and vitamin C. It is packaged in an innovative tube made from 72% paper.

"Plump your skin with eco-responsibility, plumping serum cream".

The Plumskin Group has presented a plumping, eco-responsible cream-serum. Its composition is innovative, thanks in particular to selected eco-designed natural active ingredients or eco-extracts, as well as selected up-cycled oils. The cream-serum is packaged in eco-designed packaging: a lightweight glass bottle made from 10% recycled glass, and a case in recycled paper and grass fiber.

"A soothing cream that boosts radiance and elegance for all men.

The Le Courtois group has developed a product based on CBD and ingredients of over 99% natural origin. The 13 ingredients that make up this formula are packaged in the strict minimum.

Gaëlle BUTEL, Léa DAMOTTE, Loïc DAUCHEL, Pauline ESTEVES, Annabelle LEWKOWIEZ, Zoe PHAN-DAUGAN, Alexandre RETAILLEAU.

"Anti-aging gel cream for men, all skin types".

"Dive into the grape asset!"

The ANOUVEAU group presented its Winem product.
This is a gel-cream for men based on up-cycled grape active ingredients, derived from wine-making.
This minimalist formula respects the constraints of Clean Beauty, with 97% of ingredients of natural origin. The packaging is inspired by the world of wine: cork stopper, green recycled glass. The group has chosen not to use secondary packaging to limit environmental impact, but has designed an adapted transport case.

Feedback :

When asked "if this collaborative industrial design project were to be repeated", the 37 students unanimously agreed to take part again. Indeed, to live this unique and enriching experience working on this team project in Startup mode is an opportunity and a springboard for the future. To produce a marketable product in just 5 months, the students had to deal with a number of issues, including constraints specific to each field (cosmetics and packaging) as well as those of the business world. The investment, quality of work and motivation of these students prove that they have all the skills needed to succeed in the corporate world.
