Biology – Ecology: Meeting Between Secondary School Teachers and Faculty Members from the FdS

On October 7, the Department of Biology and Ecology hosted, for the fourth time,80 secondary school teachers (life and earth sciences in middle and high school, biotechnology in high school, and biology and ecology in high school) collaborating with 19 teacher-researchers (Faculty of Sciences, UM) and researchers (CNRS, IRD, INRAE, CIRAD), specialists in the ecology and evolution of infectious diseases in plants and animals. The program, funded by MUSE through KIM-RIVE (Infectious Risks and Vectors), involves each of the 19 teams of teachers working with a researcher on a scientific article selected by the researcher and adapting it for use in the classroom in the form of a poster and a set of activities that can be carried out directly in class. All of this educational material will be compiled into a book in the “From the Lab to the Classroom” series, titled “Teaching the Concept of Health Ecology.” The first volume of this series, “Evolution in Action,” has been distributed to all secondary schools in France (12,000 copies).

These were very rewarding days, both for the faculty members and for the researchers and faculty-researchers, who are always delighted to reconnect with so many high school teachers who were trained at the Faculty of Sciences!
