December 5, 2022: Conference - "The Future of Cosmology" by Professor Joseph SILK at Montpellier University

The future of Cosmology

December 5, 2022 at 4 p.m.

Amphi 5.05 - Triolet Campus

In this talk, I'll be stressing the importance of putting science at the forefront of lunar exploration. The new frontier of cosmology is the exploration of the Dark Ages, the period long before the first stars were formed. We will achieve this by installing low-frequency radio telescopes on the far side of the Moon. The unique radio-silent environment will provide a robust probe of our inflationary origins. Collateral projects will include the construction of infrared telescopes with unprecedented vision in permanently shadowed craters near the lunar poles. We'll then be ready to answer some of the most profound questions facing humanity.

Joseph Silk is one of the pioneers of modern cosmology. His research covers vast areas of cosmology, from the origin of the density fluctuations that gave rise to the great structures of the Universe, to the formation and evolution of galaxies and the nature of dark matter.
