January 23, 2024 – Day 4 Condorcet: secularism

The IRES (Institute for Research in Science Education) and IRCL (Institute for Research on the Renaissance, the Classical Age, and the Enlightenment) invite you to the 4th Condorcet Day.

Following sessions devoted to plurality voting, the place of women in science (2016), the relationship between science, morality, and politics (2017), and the Anthropocene (2019), this fourth "Condorcet Day" will address the issue of secularism.

It is open to all University staff who wish to hear rigorous presentations and discuss complex issues. Four presentations will enliven the day by addressing the issue of secularism from legal, historical, political, and philosophical perspectives.

Since 2016, the IRES department (formerly DESciRE) of the Faculty of Sciences of Montpellier, and the Institute for Research on the Renaissance, the Classical Age, and the Enlightenment (IRCL, UMR5186 CNRS-Paul-Valéry University), have been organizing study days devoted to contemporary issues. These meetings have been named "Condorcet Days" to highlight the rational spirit in which the conferences and debates are held. The organizers believe that the topical nature of these issues should not be a pretext for militant shortcuts or partisan reductions.
