Two researchers from the School of Science trace 200 million years of mammalian history in a new book

The Faculty of Sciences is proud to announce the upcoming publication of the book “The Epic of Mammals:
From the First Fossils to the Present,” co-authored by Pierre-Olivier Antoine and Lionel Hautier, paleontologists and faculty members at our Faculty.

Published by Éditions Belin, this book will be released on November 5, 2026. Across 224 richly illustrated pages, it offers the general public a fascinating journey through the evolutionary history of mammals, from their earliest fossil ancestors to the species that inhabit our planet today.

The result of an ambitious scientific and educational project, this “coffee-table book” features more than 150 color illustrations that provide insight into the major stages of mammalian evolution, their remarkable adaptations, and the paleontological discoveries that have made it possible to reconstruct this extraordinary journey of life.

This publication once again demonstrates the dynamism of the research teams at the Faculty of Sciences and their commitment to sharing scientific knowledge with as many people as possible.

The authors will also have the opportunity to present their book at an “Agora des Savoirs” event, scheduled for January 6, 2027, in Montpellier—an event that will allow the public to engage directly with them about this fascinating scientific epic.
