Chemistry Master's Day 2021 (Newsletter #11 - March 2022)

Master Chemistry Day 2021, the fifth graduation ceremony for students of the Montpellier Faculty of Science's Master Chemistry program, took place on Friday November 26, 2021 on the University of Montpellier's Triolet Campus. Gathered in the school's Dumontet amphitheater, the graduating students of the M2 Chemistry class of 2020-2021 were presented with their diplomas, the true culmination of their years of university study.

The event, hosted by Pr. Umit Demirci (Deputy Director of the Chemistry LMD5 Master's degree), was attended by around 150 people in person (graduates, teaching staff, students from the Chemistry degree) and was broadcast live on the UM's digital platform so that relatives of graduates could follow the ceremony remotely. Introductory speeches began with Professor Alain Hoffmann, Director of the Faculty of Science, followed by those of Pr. Jean-Yves Winum (Director of the Chemistry teaching department) and Pr. Joulia Larionova (Director of the Chemistry Mention of the LMD4 Master's degree). All three warmly congratulated the students on their success and wished them a bright professional future, hoping that they would not forget their years at the University and that, in the near future, they too would become ambassadors and privileged partners of Montpellier's university chemistry in their professional circles.

Participants then had the opportunity to listen toZeolites: reasons and risks of a success story" conferencepresented by Dr. Francesco Di Renzo, Emeritus Research Director at CNRS. This was followed by testimonials from two former students of the Chemistry Master's program, looking back on their academic careers and the impact these have had on their current professional lives.

Last but not least,84 of the 148 students graduating in the class of 2020-2021, from 11different courses, were presented with their M2 Chemistry 2021 diplomas by Professor Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, who honored us with his presence at the event. The graduation ceremony ended with the traditional hat-toss, a powerful symbol of the culmination of a brilliant academic career.

The Master's Day in Chemistry ended with a buffet during which the young graduates were able to talk to their teachers about their future careers.
