PIX Certification: Develop Your Digital Skills (Continuing Education)

PIX is a public initiative offering an online digital learning platform and in-person certification, free of charge to students in the Faculty of Sciences. It has replaced the Computer and Internet Certificate (B2i) and the Level 1 Computer and Internet Certification since the start of the 2019 academic year.
What is Pix certification?
Its goal is to help raise the overall level of digital knowledge and skills and thereby prepare for the digital transformation of our entire society and economy.
Pix is a public platform that allows users to assess and certify their digital skills throughout their lives. Every citizen can obtain a “digital” profile ranging from beginner to expert level (1 to 8).
Highlights of the Training Program
=> Training focused on developing cross-functional skills to effectively navigate one's digital environment
=> All instructors are graduates of the University of Montpellier; they are qualified and experienced, and accustomed to working with students at various levels of prior knowledge.
=> Entry-level assessment test for learners. Regardless of your starting level, we offer basic (and/or advanced) computer training that will enable you to use and manage the software that has become essential in your daily and professional life.
=> Personalized support throughout the training program, including two assessments before taking the PIX certification exam.
Assessing Your Digital Skills
PIX allows users to obtain a skills profile along with an overall score out of 1,024 PIX by completing activities on a national platform available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In accordance with the European DIGCOMP reference framework, PIX will assess the 16 digital competencies across 5 major areas:
D1: Information and Data:
- Conduct research and monitor information to meet an information need and stay up to date on developments related to a topic;
- Store and organize data to retrieve and preserve it, and to facilitate access to and management of the data;
- Apply data processing techniques to analyze and interpret data.
D2: Communication and Collaboration:
- Interact with individuals and small groups to communicate in various contexts related to personal life or professional activities, on an occasional or recurring basis;
- Sharing and publishing information and content to communicate one's own work or opinions, or to relay those of others in the context of public communication;
- Collaborate as part of a group to carry out a project, jointly develop resources, knowledge, and data, and to learn;
- Understand the strategies and challenges of an online presence, and choose the right approaches to position oneself as a social, economic, and civic actor in the digital world, taking into account its rules, limitations, and potential, and in line with one’s values and/or to achieve specific goals.
D3: Content Creation:
- Produce documents consisting primarily of text to communicate ideas, report on, and showcase one's work;
- Develop multimedia documents to create your own multimedia productions, enhance your primarily text-based creations, or create a transformative work;
- Adapt documents of all types to their intended use and understand how to apply licenses to enable, facilitate, and regulate their use in various contexts;
- Write programs and algorithms to meet a need and to develop rich content.
D4: Data Protection and Security:
- Secure equipment, communications, and data to protect against attacks, traps, disruptions, and incidents that could interfere with the proper functioning of hardware, software, and websites, and compromise transactions and data;
- Manage your digital footprint and personal data to protect your privacy and that of others, and adopt informed practices;
- To prevent and mitigate the risks posed by digital technology to health, well-being, and the environment, while also harnessing its potential to promote personal development, care, social inclusion, and a better quality of life—for oneself and for others.
D5: The Digital Environment:
- Set up, configure, and enhance a digital environment (hardware, tools, services) to create a framework tailored to the activities being carried out, their operational context, or the organization’s values.
- Troubleshooting Technical Issues
The exams assess not only knowledge but also practical skills and the ability to identify digital challenges.
Innovative assessment methods are proposed that go beyond the usual multiple-choice format and focus on in silico assessment of skills based on activities carried out in their actual digital environment: interactions, file management, problem-solving, creative projects, peer evaluations, etc.

Developing Digital Skills
PIX contributes to the development of each individual's skills in three ways:
- PIX will allow you to learn by testing yourself. In fact, a significant portion of the PIX assessments are designed as challenges to be completed, during which you develop your skills.
- Based on the test results, PIX will also provide targeted training recommendations.
- Faculty will be able to track students' skill development and design customized training strategies.
To track progress in a continuous and engaging way, users will have access to a secure personal account that will allow them to showcase their new skills at their own pace and throughout their lives.
Showcasing Your Digital Skills
PIX offersan optional“certification” mode that allows users to obtain an official certification that is reliable and recognized by the national education system, higher education institutions, and the professional world (resume), including at the European level.
This supplemental test must be taken in person under exam conditions.
