Change of Major at the Faculty of Sciences in Montpellier

Are you no longer satisfied with your enrollment plan and would like to change it?

You may , subject to eligibility requirements based on your individual circumstances, transfer to the Faculty of Sciences, starting in Semester 2.

Please refer to the drop-down menus below to review the essential requirements for your application based on your situation.

Please note: Your application must be submitted only during the intersemester period on the dates indicated. Changing majors or transferring outside the Parcoursup/MonMaster process is not permitted at the start of the academic year.

To switch programs at the beginning of the year, you must have beenaccepted through an application platform(Parcoursup/e-Candidat/MonMaster).

SCHEDULE

The Reorientation Campaign will run from mid-November to mid-December.

Your file must must be submitted before this date to the School Office at the following address:

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Your application is under review : you will be notified by return email of the academic decision that has been made.

Case 1: You are already enrolled in the School of Science

Note: If your host institution is a public higher education institution, the Faculty of Sciences will transfer the tuition fees to your host institution; you do not need to pay tuition fees again.

Your request concerns:

=> A change in direction.

You may request a change of major only if:

=> You are at the Faculty of Sciences in a second-year, third-year, or second-year Master’s program, and you wish to change your track within the same major.

Students enrolled in thefirst year of a degree program (Bachelor’s Year 1 and Master’s Year 1) are not permitted to change their major.

Except in certain exceptional cases: see the Faculty of Science's R3E

Changes to the major for bachelor's and master's degrees are not permitted.

Contents of the application package:

  • The reorientation form to be completed and signed;
  • A detailed resume;
  • A cover letter explaining and justifying your choice;
  • A copy of your high school transcript, as well as your college transcripts;
  • Any documents that support your application (degrees, certificates, transcripts, course descriptions, syllabi, etc.).

Please attach your complete application by December 15 to fds.mitra@umontpellier.fr so that your application can be considered.

If your application is accepted, you may also submit a request for recognition of prior learning to have TU earned during yourfirst semester recognized.

Please submit this request using the form to your program advisor for review and signature. This document must then be submitted to your academic office for processing.

First-Year Undergraduate Program: fds.l1@umontpellier.fr

=> A transfer to another institution (Outgoing transfer):

You can request an outgoing transfer only if:

  • Would you like to transfer from the Faculty of Sciences to another institution outside the University of Montpellier ;
    • You are in good standing with the University of Montpellier (administrative file approved, payments up to date, no current restrictions, etc.);
    • You are in good standing with the University Library (discharge form completed and signed).

To submit your request, please download the Outgoing Transfer form and send it to fds.mitra@umontpellier.fr.

Next, return the form to the following address fds.mitra@umontpellier, once completed and signed by your new host institution.

Your academic records will be sent to your new host institution.


Case 2: You are already enrolled in another department at the University of Montpellier

Your request concerns:

  • A change in component:

You may request a change of component only if:

  • Would you like to transfer from the Faculty of Sciences to another division of the University of Montpellier [Link to the list of components];
    • You are in good standing with the University of Montpellier (administrative file approved, payments up to date, no current restrictions, etc.)

Studentsenrolled in another program who wish to transfer to the Faculty of Sciences during the intersemester period are not permittedto do so.

To submit your request, please download the Department Change Form and send it to the appropriate office at your new department.

Next, return the completed and signedform to fds.mitra@umontpellier for approval.

Your new academic office will transfer your administrative registration to your new department if your application has been accepted.

Case 3: You are not enrolled at the University of Montpellier

Your request concerns a transfer during the academic year, between semesters:

You may apply for an incoming transfer during the academic year only if:

  • You are enrolled.at the University of Montpellier for the current academic year ;
  • Your request is for a training course that is exactly the same as the one you are currently taking (equivalent level of study and major).

Examples:

You are currently enrolled in the second year of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Poitiers and wish to transfer to the second year of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Montpellier.

You are currently enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences at the University of Lyon and would like to transfer to the first year of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Montpellier.

Please attach the complete application by December 15 to fds.mitra@umontpellier.fr so that your application can be considered.

If your application is approved, you will be contacted to complete your administrative registration at the Faculty of Science.

Your home institution will cover the cost of this registration, so you will not have to pay any registration fees

You can also submit a request for recognition of prior learning to have any TU have earned during yourfirst semester recognized.

Please submit this request using the form to your program advisor for review and signature. This document must then be submitted to your academic office for processing.

CASE 4: You are a student in a preparatory class for the grandes écoles and are also enrolled in the School of Science

You are officially enrolled in the Faculty of Sciences while pursuing your CPGE program at an accredited high school (list below).

Under the agreement between the Faculty of Sciences and your institution, you are eligible for a automatic program change (no application required) in the program you selected during your initial registration.

  • If you are currently inyour first year of CPGE, you can change your major:

At the end of thefirst semester for admission to the first year of the bachelor’s program in the second semester of the current academic year;

At the end of the academic year to enter the second year of the bachelor’s program in the third semester of the following year.

  • If you are currently inyour second year of CPGE, you can switch tracks:

At the end of thefirst semester for admission to the second year of the bachelor’s program in the fourth semester of the current academic year;

At the end of the academic year to enter the third year of a bachelor’s degree program in the fifth semester of the following year.

Contents of the application package:

For students transferring into the first year (L1) in Semester 2 or into the second year (L2) in Semester 4 of the current academic year, a Joint Committee will determine whether yourfirst semester will be fully (30 ECTS) or partially recognized.

For students transferring into the second year (L2) in Semester 3 or the third year (L3) in Semester 5 of the following academic year, a Joint Committee will determine whether yourfirst orsecond year of CPGE will be fully recognized (60 or 120 ECTS).

If your CPGE year is not approved:

  • First year: You can switch to the first year of a bachelor’s degree program.
  • Second year: You will have the option to switch to the second year of the bachelor’s program.

Requests to change majorsafter the first semester of the current academic yearmust be submittedby December 15 of the current academic year.

Requests to change majorsat the end of the academic yearmust be submittedby September 30 of the following academic year.
