“Jiyuu” means “Freedom” in Japanese. This scholarship was established in January 2016 at the initiative of Stéphane Sarrade in memory of his son Hugo, a 23-year-old man who was a victim of the terrorist attacks that struck France on November 13, 2015.
Worth 5,000 euros, this scholarship supports a student wishing to complete an internship in Japan to further their scientific education. It is intended for a student at the FdS or Polytech who is enrolled either in a Master’s program in the sciences (regardless of the field) or at the Polytech School of Engineering.

After a brief historical overview of the America's Cup, we will explain how, in just a few years, the teamsThe sailors participating in this legendary race have transformed the face of sailing, even making it accessible to the average person, by shifting boats from Archimedean mode to flying (lifted) mode.

The session will explore the value of computer simulation and the significant role that science plays in the design of these “Formula 1s of the seas.”

Finally, we will look at a concrete example that traces the technological choices made for the 2013 event in San Francisco and the 2017 event in Bermuda.
