January 20, 2022: Science Bar: “How to Feed 10 Billion People”

The first Science Bar of the season will take place on Thursday, January 20, at 8:30 p.m., with the theme: How can we feed 10 billion people on Earth?

Our planet is home to some 7.9 billion people, and according to projections, that number is expected to reach around 10 billion by 2050. Feed constantly growing global population is therefore a major challenge.
Population growth, urbanization, rising living standards, changing dietary habits, climate change… These various factors are placing extreme pressure on resources.
Will we be able to feed the 10 billion people who will inhabit our planet in the coming decades? What solutions exist to meet this challenge in a sustainable way? These issues require immediate change, and the answers involve rethinking our food and agricultural practices.

To discuss this science-and-society topic, a diverse group of multidisciplinary experts from the Planet@aliment project will answer questions from the public live:
=> Ève Fouilleux, political scientist at the CNRS, member of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Science, Innovation, and Society (LISIS), and associate researcher at the MOISA Joint Research Unit in Montpellier.
=> Éric Verger, nutritionist at the IRD (MOISA Joint Research Unit)
=> Yves Vigouroux, plant geneticist at the IRD, director of the DIADE Joint Research Unit.

In collaboration with the sustainable food awareness project, Planet@alimenthttps://planetaliment.comcofinancé, funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
