The EEA department welcomes high school students to share in a student project: Setting up a radio communication system

The amateur radio community has issued a call for projects to set up a student radio station.

The University of Montpellier was chosen as the only university to participate, alongside secondary schools from all over France. The EEA department (Electronics, Electrical Energy, Automation) of the Faculty of Science, in conjunction with Polytech Montpellier, is responsible for setting up a ground station for satellite communication with the Crozet Islands, a sub-Antarctic island. The aim is to be able to communicate directly with biology and environmental researchers on mission in the islands.

On Monday November 28, two classes of 10th graders (around 60 students) and their teachers were invited to discuss the project with EEA teachers. The program included a tour of the campus, radio communications demonstrations in the practical work and project rooms of the EEA department and Polytech Montpellier, and lectures on the professions represented on the campus. The highlight of the day was a general presentation of the RadioCampus university radio station.
