The EEA department is hosting high school students to collaborate on a student project: Setting up a radio communication system
The amateur radio community has issued a call for proposals for the establishment of a student-run radio communication system.
The University of Montpellier was selected as the only university, alongside middle and high schools from across France. The EEA Department (Electronics, Electrical Energy, and Automation) of the Faculty of Sciences, in collaboration with École Polytech Montpellier, is responsible for working with students to set up a ground station for satellite communication with the sub-Antarctic Crozet Islands. The goal is to enable direct communication with biology and environmental researchers on missions to the islands.
Two 10th-grade general education classes (about 60 students) were invited, along with their teachers, to meet with EEA faculty members to discuss this project on Monday, November 28. On the agenda: a tour of the campus, demonstrations of radio communications in the lab and project rooms of the EEA department and Polytech Montpellier, and presentations on the careers represented on campus. To cap it all, a general presentation of the university radio station RadioCampus brought this wonderful day to a close.
