As part of the inventory and enhancement of its educational collections of minerals and rocks, the Earth-Water-Environment Department of the Faculty of Sciences is offering 8 Student Employment Contracts* to students in the Earth-Water-Environment Department.
4 Student Employment Contracts in Mineralogy:
Hours per contract: 60
Period: June1 –June 30, 2023
Location: Building 23 on the Triolet Campus and the Institute of Botany (163 Auguste Broussonnet Street)
The student will be responsible for cataloging the University’s educational and heritage mineralogy collection. The student must demonstrate a strong interest in mineralogy and have a solid foundation in the subject. He or she will be required to identify mineral samples, describe them, photograph them, and enter the data into an online database and an Excel spreadsheet.
3 Student Employment Contracts in Tectonics:
Hours per contract: 40 hours
Dates: June 26–July 13, 2023
Location: Building 23 on the Triolet Campus
The student will be responsible for cataloging the University’s educational and heritage collection of tectonites. He or she will be required to identify the tectonite samples, describe them, assign them new identification numbers, and enter the data into an Excel database. The student must demonstrate a strong interest in tectonic rock deformations and possess a solid knowledge of structural geology.
1 Student Employment Contract in Paleontology:
Total hours: 60
Period: June 1–30, 2023
Location: Building 23 on the Triolet Campus
The student will be responsible for cataloging the University’s educational and heritage micro-paleontology collection. He or she will be required to identify educational microfossil samples, primarily prepared as slides (e.g., foraminifera, nannoplankton, diatoms, radiolarians, etc.), describe them (in written, audio, and/or video formats), photograph them (digitally), and enter the data into a database. The student must demonstrate an interest in paleontology and science communication and have a foundation in biostratigraphy/paleoenvironment (TU or HAV602) and/or in the systematics and taxonomy of living organisms (TU , HAV408).
