"Boutographies" on Display at the Faculty of Sciences – Saturday, May 24, 2025
The Boutographies are reaffirming their special connection with the Faculty of Sciences, but this year they’ll be taking place on campus. In fact, for the past three years, students inTU CreativeTU and the association S.C.R.I.B.E.S—Salon de Création Récréative et d’Initiation Bienveillante à l’Écriture par les Scientifiques—have had the opportunity to exhibit their texts at the Pavillon Populaire, texts that resonate with the work of a guest photographer.
An iconic festival
In the editorial for *Boutographies* by Agnès Robin (Deputy Mayor of Montpellier), we learn—or are reminded—that “the Festival (…), organized by the Grain d’Image association, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Launched in 2000 by a group of photography enthusiasts, this festival dedicated to new European photography has, over the years, earned a solid reputation in France and abroad. No fewer than 567 photographers from 34 different countries have shared their vision of the world with us throughout the 25 years of this adventure.”
The new partnership with the Faculty of Science
Jean-Michel Marin, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, is committed to broadening the educational experience of science students so that they become not only specialists but also engaged citizens. To highlight the faculty’s identity, the iconic Building 36—a must-see destination—has been transformed into an exhibition hall, much to the delight of visitors. Ahead of the festival’s official start on May 10, April 4 was chosen as the date to allow students still on campus to enjoy this unique experience.
Visitors can thus admire François Winants’ work, “Living the Time.” This series brings together works exploring the phenomena that shape our climate system. It presents itself as a collection of invisible stories revealing the forces and temporalities that inhabit our world, while examining the environment on various scales: local, global, and temporal.

Under the leadership of Christian Maccotta (artistic director of Boutographies) and Sonia Chalbi (project manager for Arts, Culture, and Science), the Faculty of Sciences is now part of the festival’s Parallèle[1] section. And as in previous years at the Pavillon Populaire, the texts produced by the students are on display in Building 36 until the exhibition closes on June 2. A writing workshop attended by the artist gave rise to fourteen different yet complementary pieces: poems, micro-stories, and pleas for nature. Congratulations and thank you to the authors for these voices that reflect the enthusiasm sparked by the environmental theme.
The FDS on the Vélo Boutos route
Another new feature is the “Living the Time” exhibition, which will be open to the public on Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be one of the stops along the VéloBouto exhibition route.
Families and festival-goers who are cyclists can explore Building 36 and watch a screening of animated eco-poems created by students in the Geological Hazards and Geodynamics master’s programs. They can also participate in a writing workshop (registration required) related to the photo series.
There was a wonderful turnout for this first edition, which we hope will be followed by many more!
