Les Boutographies exhibition at the Faculty of Sciences – Saturday, May 24, 2025

Les Boutographies confirms its special relationship with the Faculty of Science, but this year it will be held on site. For the past three years, students fromTU creativeTU and the association S.C.R.I.B.E.S (Salon de Création Récréative et d’Initiation Bienveillante à l’Écriture par les Scientifiques) have had the opportunity to exhibit their writing at the Pavillon Populaire, in conjunction with the work of a guest photographer.

An iconic festival

In the editorial of Boutographies by Agnès Robin (deputy mayor of Montpellier), we learn or are reminded that "the Festival (...) organized by the Grain d'Image association, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Launched in 2000 by a group of photography enthusiasts, this festival dedicated to new European photography has gained a solid reputation in France and abroad over the years. No fewer than 567 photographers from 34 different countries have shared their vision of the world with us throughout the 25 years of this adventure."

The new partnership with the Faculty of Science

Jean-Michel Marin, director of the Faculty of Sciences, is keen to broaden the profile of science students so that they are not only trained as specialists but also as citizens. To highlight the identity of the structure, the iconic Building 36, an unmissable landmark, has been transformed into an exhibition hall for the enjoyment of visitors. Ahead of the festival's official start on May 10, April 4 was chosen as the date to allow students still on campus to enjoy this unique experience.

We can therefore admire François Winants' work "Living the Time." This series brings together works on the phenomena that structure our climate system. It presents itself as a collection of invisible stories revealing the forces and temporalities that inhabit our world, while questioning the environment on different scales: local, global, and temporal.

Take a look back at the opening of François Winants' exhibition

Under the leadership of Christian Maccotta (artistic director of Boutographies) and Sonia Chalbi (Arts, Culture, and Science project manager), the Faculty of Sciences is now part of the festival's Parallel section. And, as in previous years at the Pavillon Populaire, the texts produced by the students are on display in Building 36 until June 2. A writing workshop attended by the artist gave rise to fourteen different yet complementary fragments: poems, micro-fictions, and pleas for nature. Congratulations and thank you to the authors for these voices that testify to the enthusiasm generated by the environmental theme.

The SDS on the Vélo Boutos route

Another innovation is the "Living the Time" exhibition, which will be open to the public on Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be one of the stops on the VéloBouto exhibition route.

Families and cycling festival-goers will be able to explore Building 36 and watch a screening of animated eco-poems created by students from the Geological Hazards and Geodynamics Master's programs. They will also be able to take part in a writing workshop (registration required) related to the photographic series.

A wonderful turnout for this first edition, which we hope will be followed by many more!
