January 18, 2023 - Welcome meeting ESN Montpellier

The ESN (Erasmus Student Network) is organizing a series of film screenings to promote the French film heritage to an international student audience. In addition to conferences, welcome stands and forums, these screenings enable the association to organize more entertaining awareness-raising projects that reach a wider audience, including mainly UM students. Due to the large number of different nationalities present at our events, these screenings will be in VO (French) with English subtitles.

The first screening, which will also be the "Welcome Meeting" of the second semester, will take place onWednesday18/01 at 6:30 pm at the MDEAimé Schoenig on the Richter Campus.

It will be free, of course, and accompanied by a buffet after the screening. The film on offer is "L'auberge Espagnole" by Cédric Klapisch, about the adventures of a French Erasmus student in Barcelona. The event is totally free of charge and financed by ESN Montpellier and the MDE.Registration is required, however, as seating for the film is limited.

EINE KULTURSTADT FÜR ALLE.A CULTURAL CITY FOR ALL

Friday, Nov 25 (morning) to Sunday, Nov 27, 2022 (noon)
Maison de Heidelberg in Montpellier and other venues in town

For a long weekend, 28 young adults from Montpellier and the twin city of Heidelberg will reflect together in Montpellier on the notion of a cultural city. After a first edition in 2021 in Germany, the Maison de Heidelberg and the Stadtjugendring Heidelberg want to once again call on the collective intelligence of European youth to learn from each other.

What is a barcamp? It's a participatory discussion format that leaves room for innovative visions. The aim of this Franco-German barcamp is to imagine the European cultural capital #Montpellier2028. The main themes will be diversity, green culture and public space. A public forum will close the meeting at the Maison des Relations Internationales.

STUDYING IN QUEBEC IN 2021

For the first time in France, Mc Gill, Université de Montréal, UQAM, Concordia, Université Laval, and Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal, along withall the other Quebec universities will be coming to meet French students on Wednesday December 9 and Thursday December 10. Never before have the 18 universities of La Belle Province come together to meet French candidates.

Given the pandemic situation, the Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MES), in collaboration with Quebec's eighteen universities, is organizing a virtual information and admission fair for all French students wishing to study in Quebec at the start of the 2021 academic year.

This virtual event will take place over two days. It will take a form similar to that of a face-to-face student fair. Participants will be able to access a dedicated platform and select the institutions they wish to visit. They will also be able to take part in a general information webinar on the Quebec education system and the administrative procedures involved in studying in Quebec, consult the documents provided by exhibitors, and talk to them to find out more about registration procedures and the programs on offer.

The two-day event is aimed at prospective students studying in Quebec, as well as prescribers from all over France. Parents and information and guidance professionals are also welcome.

Admissions officers from Quebec's 18 universities and representatives of the Quebec government will be on hand. For the first time in France, the full range of Quebec universities will be represented. 1,500 applicants are expected on each day. The vast majority of interviews will take the form of chat or virtual video meetings.

Lastly, as universities are only present for 2 information and admission days, applicants must register well in advance on the website :

SITUATION COVID-19

Due to the health situation, our team is unable to welcome you in person, but will continue to accompany you and answer your questions by e-mail:welcome-desk-um@umontpellier.fr

Measures taken by the Ministry of the Interior in the context of COVID-19-related health issues

Given the health context, the reception of residence permit applicants at prefectures has been suspended since March 16, 2020 for an indefinite period.

Here are some important points concerning the validity of residence documents for international students and researchers:

1-Thefollowing documents that expire between March 16 and May 15, 2020 are automatically extended by three months, with no action required(Ordinance no. 2020-328 of March 25, 2020 extending the validity of residence documents).

- Long-stay visas - Residence permits of any kind, with the exception of special residence permits issued to foreign diplomatic and consular personnel - Temporary residence permits - Residence permit application receipts - Asylum application certificates - for all questions:pref-asile@herault.gouv.fr

IMPORTANT: the right to work and social rights are maintained

-Students cancontinue to work as long as they haven't exceeded their quota of hours (964h/year). If the quota is exceeded, their employer must refer the matter to the DIRECCTE, at the following address:oc-ud34.moe@direccte.gouv.fr, which will decide on a provisional work authorization (APT).
-Researchers maycontinue to work for a further 3 months under the same hosting agreement.

2- Forexpired short-stay visas: students and researchers should send an e-mail to:pref-etrangers@herault.gouv.fret, attaching a copy of their passport and visa.
The Préfecture de l'Hérault will be on hand to read these e-mails, and will call users to the prefecture to hand over their visas (half a day a week).

3-Students and researchers with a long-stay visa/residence permit that expired before March 16 but who had made an appointment with our service(keep the appointment confirmation certificate): a new appointment date will be proposed as soon as the Accueil International service reopens.

4-IMPORTANT: Students and researchers whose residence permits expired before March 16 can no longer benefit from their social and employment rights(not taken into account by the order of March 26, 2020).
Researchers whose residence permit expired before March 16 and who had not made an appointmentmust quickly send an e-mail to the Préfecture with their new reception agreement and their new contract in order to obtain a récépissé and thus be able to work.

How to obtain a receipt: for international students and researchers whose permits expired before March 16, send an e-mail to:pref-etrangers@herault.gouv.fr.

To ensure that their e-mail is processed rapidly by the Préfecture de l'Hérault, they should specifyin the subject line their full name and the nature of the request(title expired before 16/3, etc.).
Once the complete application has been received, students/researchers will be called to the prefecture to receivea receipt. The documents (passport and two passport photos) will be taken and returned/delivered (receipt) at the entrance gate to avoid contact as much as possible.

GENERAL INFORMATION :

- For permits expiring after March 16, the 3-month extension applies only on French territory. Foreigners holding expired permits and benefiting from the current extension are therefore advised not to leave French territory.
However, if you are a student or researcher who has left France and would like to return, you must go to the French consulate/embassy in your country of residence to apply for a return visa.

- No residence permit can be withdrawn at the Préfecture.
We therefore advise students/researchers to send us an e-mail to:saiec@univ-montp3.fr,en, specifying their surname, first name and foreign national number in the subject line.
As soon as the Accueil International reopens, we'll be able to follow up on the issue of their residence permit.
