Enrollment in a university is subject to the payment of annual tuition fees set by ministerial order. A procedure for exceptional exemption is provided for in Article R 719-50 of the Education Code.
Requests for tuition refunds will be reviewed by the Exemption and Refund Committee for its opinion before a decision is made by
, President of the University of Montpellier; this decision will be sent directly to the applicant by mail.
Below are the various reasons that may qualify for a refund:
=> Without cancellation of administrative registration
– Academic performance (Successful completion in the absence of scholarships)
– Health issues (medical inability to attend classes)
=> With cancellation of administrative registration
– Financial hardship
– Health issues (medical reason preventing attendance in class)
– Change of academic focus outside the University of Montpellier and outside public higher education institutions
– Entry into the workforce or job search
The following are not within the committee’s scope:
=> Students on a gap year
=> Financial difficulties that do not result in withdrawal from enrollment: these fall under the jurisdiction of the CROUS social services department, as specifically noted on the exceptional refund request form.
In the event of a registration cancellation, a flat-rate administrative fee of 23 euros, set by ministerial order, will be deducted from the refund.

Please note: The Mitra Division only processes exemption requests for courses offered by the FDS. If you are enrolled in other courses within the UM (IAE, Polytech, etc.), you must submit a separate request for each course to the respective departments.
